Showbehind Works Behind the Scenes
ShowBehind is an adware program created by the MicroSmarts Enterprises Company back in 2003. It is also known as Swind, depending on your antispyware program. It provides pop under advertisements to infected users. It has a medium range security risk.
ShowBehind has to be manually installed on a computer. Often, it will use Trojan downloader programs like Vundo or Zlob to assist with this process. It often comes as part of a freeware or shareware package installed by a user.
The pop-under ads that ShowBehind generates have random content that appears behind the browser. It targets the Windows Internet Explorer browser and generates its pop under ads below the browser screen while surfing the Internet.
ShowBehind runs constantly as long as the computer is running. This extra use of random access memory (RAM) can cause other programs to run slower and crash. It does this in order to be ready when Internet Explorer gets opened.
Another feature of ShowBehind is that it sets up a registry key that causes it to start up when the computer is rebooted. This can be problematic for some antispyware programs, since this is typically a protection against removal. With most antispyware programs, it's recommended that you disable the system restore feature in Windows before running them to prevent this type of recovery.
There is some debate about whether ShowBehind is a 'valid' program. Apparently, perhaps without your knowledge, you sign an agreement to have ShowBehind on your computer in exchange for using the freeware program you downloaded.
While this may be the case, do you really want ShowBehind on your computer? Are you okay with pop under windows and a slower running time with your programs? Most people aren't.
In the end, it's better for your peace of mind to remove ShowBehind. The popups are annoying, and there's no telling what you're getting. It's highly doubtful you will go to court for not honoring a user agreement with these guys.
